Sustainability on Stevens

Accor has been committed to constantly work to redefine boundaries. The Planet 21 programme holds four strategic priorities; work with its employees, involve its customers, innovate with its partners and work with local communities. Planet 21 aims to provide a positive hospitality experience while keeping in mind the concerns for a sustainable future.

Riise

Accor launched RiiSE as it renewed its commitment to diversity and inclusiveness, giving fresh impetus to its international network promoting diversity. The new identity of the Group’s international network to promote diversity features a double ‘ii’ as it symbolizes the men and women who are committed to the values of sharing knowledge, of solidarity and of combatting stereotypes. The network takes a new step to improve its commitment to gender equality with a new goal: diversity as a key driver of collective performance. Based on the sharing of knowledge through a mentoring programe, RiiSE looks at the promotion of female talent to positions of responsibility and on combatting all sorts of discrimination from stereotypes to everyday sexism or sexual harassment, through communication campaigns, conferences and awareness-raising workshops.

In line with the commitment made by Sébastian Bazin, CEO of AccorHotels, to the United Nations (UN) in 2015 as part of the #HeForShe programe, RiiSE will pursue the Group’s objective of combatting pay inequalities and actively promote the recognition of all talents.

DARE to commit. DARE to change.

Plastic ACTion (PACT) Commitment with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)

• No plastic straws

• No plastic bottles in meeting rooms

• Bio-degradable takeaway boxes and cutleries

Novotel Singapore on Stevens and Mercure Singapore on Stevens has signed the PACT agreement with WWF to gradually reduce and remove all plastics in nature by 2030.

In all of the 4 dining outlets of our lush dual-property, plastic straws have been successfully replaced with paper straws and an interesting spin – pasta straws. For takeaways, cornware boxes and cutleries are provided whilst the Hotel constantly explores new and better solutions for both our guests and the planet. With 9 meeting spaces and ball rooms, plastic bottles is a concern that has been addressed with the provision of glass bottles and cups that are readily available for in-house guests utilising the space.

Sustainable Dining

Be introduced to a series of sustainable dining innovations with plant-based food options available in WINESTONE. With the increasing milennial vegan population brought about by growing awareness of the benefits of a vegan diet such as lowering risks of heart diseases and the positive impact it has on sustainability, veganism is finally brought into good light. WINESTONE, the hotel’s modern-European restaurant has added Plant-Based Burgers and Plant-Based Meatballs to its menu. The addition of plant-based dishes that are entirely vegetarian, with vegan options, are now made available upon request.

Soap For Hope

The dual-property on Stevens has taken a pledge to work towards a greener future by reducing and reusing what is commonly thrown away or wasted. With this pledge, both properties participated as a Soap for Hope partner to donate discarded soap bars collected from check-out rooms. These bars are reused after being cleaned and pressed into new scented soap bars. To understand where their efforts of collecting and recycling soap were going towards, the staff came together to partake in a workshop conducted by Diversey. These soap bars are recycled through a unique process and given a second purpose. Each soap bar would have additional natural ingredients added in, such as lemongrass or ginger, to name a few. This not only gave the soap bars a new scent but also, a medicinal value like helping to repel mosquitoes or a key to combating diseases. These soaps were eventually distributed to underprivileged communities.
